Once we were warriors,
Proud and strong,
Once we were keepers,
Of the land and the animals,

That roamed out savannah lands.
Once we were the masters
Of this land of Africa.
Humble children and grandchildren
Of father earth and mother nature.

Now we are the beggars
Of the big world,
Our animals have all but gone,
Our lands have gone dry,
We tried to conquer mother nature,
Tried to tame father earth.
No longer are we the masters,
Of our very own destinies,
Held hostage to alien values,
And to the generosity from foreign lands.

Oh yes, once we were warriors.
